Physics tuition – Making physics simple

Many of my students in my physics tuition classes find physics one of the most difficult subjects to learn. More often than not, the reason that they find the subject difficult is because there are a lot of laws and concepts to learn and grasp. Similarly for math, most students find that there are too many formulas and too confusing to learn. So here in this article, I will share one strategy that I teach my students on how to make a daunting task simpler to handle.

This strategy is very simple. The gist of this technique is to break up the problem or task in to smaller problems or task. This will make the initial problem at hand look simpler and less daunting to tackle. For example, if I were to ask you to clean your room, it will seem to be a very huge task and you will mentally feel that it’s going to be very difficult to do. This thought will actually limit you from trying to clean up the room. However, if I were to ask you to pack your table, this will seems like a smaller task which you feel that you can handle. As such, you will most probably go and pack your table. Similarly if I ask you to make your bed, pack your wardrobe, all these smaller task will seems simple enough to do and very likely you will do them. If you notice, by the time you finish all those small tasks, you would have completed cleaning up your room!

Applying the same logic to Physics, if you look at Physics as a whole, it’s going to be very intimidating. Lots of different topics with many different concepts and it sure look tough to learn and master them. This fear is one of the main reasons why students do not want to even start studying and learning physics. This fear will worsen if the student fails to catch up with what the teacher is teaching. Now, if you break up Physics and attack them one at a time, it’s going to be less daunting. You may be surprised that you actually know a lot more physics then you thought you knew.

For example, in ‘O’ level Physics, the topics can be divided in different smaller topics such as Newtonian Mechanics, Waves and Oscillations, Thermodynamics, Electromagnetism and Modern Physics. You can start by mastering each of the smaller topics and eventually go on to mastering ‘O’ level Physics. Hopefully this technique I share with you here in my physics tuition blog can help you to see that ‘O’ level Physics is actually not as difficult and tough as it seems.

  2. Hello Thanks for your comments.
Yes it is really not easy to achieve so much in such a short time. But wouldn't it be more challenging and give you more satisfaction when you can do it?

I am sure if you set your mind in achieving it, nothing can stop you....

    To your success.
